Summer Break 2025

As the east bay hills fade from green to gold, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my Art practice since the new year. As I was painting the other day, I noticed that both geometry and nature played a role in the scene I was depicting. The houses, street lines, and a fire hydrant contributed geometrically, while the emerging flowers and grasses contributed organically. At this moment I realized that I can synthesize geometry and organic lines and shapes into my work simply by painting human-made forms into my landscapes. While I’m not planning to abandon my practice of infusing geometry into scenes of nature, creating a symbiotic relationship between human influence within nature is a new area I’d like to explore.
This summer, I am very excited to take a weekly painting class with Walnut Creek Arts & Recreation. I am also committing to painting en plein air at least once a week, making trips to my old stomping grounds of San Francisco for this endeavor. I also have a number of group shows coming up this summer including the Alameda County Fair Fine Arts Showcase, Delicious at Studio Gallery, and Saddle, Brush, and Art, a Western themed art show and poetry exhibit at the Bankhead Theater and at Livermore Public Library.
I was absolutely astonished and thrilled to receive ‘best plein air gouache’ for plein air magazine’s April salon for my painting ‘Full Bloom’, featuring an old wisteria vine at aRt Cottage in Concord, CA. And on the east side of my world, Squirrel Gallery in Manchester, VT is hosting a Sip & Shop event on Saturday, June 7th. See below for a full list of my upcoming shows.

Finally, I am very much looking forward to a rare and special opportunity I’ll have in September. I have been offered a spot as an Artist in Residence at Centrum in Port Townsend, Washington on the Olympic Coast. During my one week stay, my goals are to familiarize myself with the landscape by painting en plein air daily, as well as continuing to explore a symbiosis of geometry in the landscape, and also and playing with omission of content to explore how negative space can lend itself both to a composition and to the viewer’s imagination.
I hope to see you at one of my upcoming events, and I will leave you with this quote by Henry David Thoreau, “The question is not what you look at, but what you see.”
